Unfortunately during my 4wd trans swap, I discovered some frame rot under my 4.0. All I found was on the frame, none on the unibody. I think it looks fixable, but being unable to weld and having little to no fab skills and frame experience, I thought I'd ask the experts before I started deciding what to do for spring.

This is on the passenger side, between where the frame starts behind the cab, running back to the leaf spring mount. 91 swb MJ

Need pics of the good sections on either side of the rust. Any hole can be fixed...unless there's nothing to start with.

Ask around for a good weld shop in your area they should be able to bend you a "U" shaped piece to fix the frame. If there is enough frame on either side to weld to like RNITOVR said.

Too bad you can't weld cause that would be a pretty easy fix with the proper tools. If the rust gets too close to the floor just have a section bent up that looks like this then it can be welded or screwed to the floor. and end up even stronger

Let me just say HOLY S#!T. Hehe. That's a lot of rust. I agree with the guys - anything can be repaired, but DAMN!! Can't wait to see how you go after that.

No floor.. this is under the bed. I dunno how familiar you guys are with Comanches, but the section under the cab is unibody, just the Cherokee. The section under the bed is actual frame, and the bed is removable.

Once the time comes around to actually fix this.. the bed will be removed. Unfortunately these are pretty much the best pics I can get right now.

The area around the holes feels pretty solid. Once the bed comes off, the entire frame section will be cleaned, fixed up, and get some sort of rustproofing.

You could just chop it off, and build a tube frame.??? That would be cool.

Ahhhh, I made a poor assumption that this was an XJ we were talking about. My bad. Tube frame does sound cool.

I will say that a Comanche tube buggy would be a pretty cool rig.

I'll be amazed if I have the ability to fix this small damage, and you guys want me to build a tube frame? Haha.

I have seen a couple MJ truggys, and they do look nifty. Not quite my thing though. I'd like this to be capable off-road, but still street legal.
