A co worker is scraping a 94 explorer and i will pull the axle if it is the correct one for a Dana 35 swap. If anyone can help identify the axle it would be great.

It will be the 8.8 but it is more desireable to get the 97 and newer with disk brakes. But all explorers came with the 8.8

It's also a 28 spline axle unlike the later 31 spline. FWIW ... I've had two 400+rwhp mustangs with 28 spline 8.8s that never gave me any trouble.

I've read that you can get the disk brake parts and swap them on to the drum brake 8.8's. However, if you look around, you can probably get one with everything for under $150. I grabbed one with a posi carrier 4.10 gears to get spare parts (insurance since I've heard some wierd noises from my current one) for $125, but the guy had already used the brake parts - otherwise I'd offer them up.

Don't need it but I am a parts collector so I hate to see something usefull go to the crusher. Never know when someone might need it.

DRK's comment didn't sound right...I think he's talking about a Ranger 8.8 instead. Anyway, found this link at Ranger Station...enjoy!!

Don't forget to grab the adapter for the pinion flange for the rear drive shaft.
