I've never had a CB, so I have some questions. I have a Motorola Mocat 2020 given to me that is still in the box and appears to have never been used. The problem with it is it's only a 23 radio channel. I see on here where it has been stated to use channel 25 when on the trail. Is there a reason for channel 25 or can other channels be used? I guess I'm asking this because I don't want to stick money into a radio that will be useless. I'm open to any suggestions or opinions. Thanks in advance.

25 was just the channel we've used. Never thought about the older CBs having only 23 channels. We should use a lower channel for this reason. If the radio works use it. You can always upgrade later. The antenna and coax will work with any radio. I have gauges to check your SWRs if need be. If It dosen't work go to Wal-Mart and be a cheap cobra they work great. You don't need a high dollar radio for trail runs. A couple of mile range is all you'll need.

And if kioti forgets his meter I keep mine in my console at all times.

That goes for anyone out on the trails. If you are unsure of your SWR just ask. It only takes a couple minutes to check and adjust

Is there a safe way to test this radio before I install it to be sure it even works since it is from the mid 70's?

Stop by the choke and puke for a 10-100  I love that movie. Anyone with a CB should be required to watch that movie.
