Goose that is the short term plan. Don't ditch any Ford parts you have I may be in need some day. I also happen to have the Chevy spring plates you spoke of and I will hang on to them for the future.

Got an old 79 F250 sitting back in the woods that I have been trying to get my hands on for years now. Has the 351M/400, C6, NP205, Dana44 HP front, and Dana60 rear. Would love to gut the whole thing and put it under my old beater Explorer for a family wheel'n machine.

I'm a ford guy and that sounds like a great combo, those were the years when real trucks were built. Does it help that I got mine for free!?!? Just had to pull the motor but to bad for him I drained more water than oil out of it.

Goose, since this turned to a Ford conversation, what's your feel about the expedition for a tow rig in the mountains? Going back and forth between F250 diesel and Expedition (or maybe a mix by going to an excursion diesel).

Excursion baby!!!!! I prefer diesel, but just can't afford one myself.

My sister has an F150 Supercrew with a topper on it, so it is basically an Expedition. They bought it new in 01 and it has spent the majority of its like(around 150K) pulling a 30 camper with a super slide. They do well as long as you do proper maintenence and drive sensable.

Be sure toi use the proper weight distribution hitch if needed. They added air bags in the rear to help cover the adde3d weight as well.

Always wanted an excursion. Buy the gas excursion, pull the motor, throw in a 12v cummins. If you can't have a duramax...it's the next best thing.

HAHAHAHAH ;)

I took her out on the highway to work today. There is a slight vibration from the front drive shaft(I don't think I got it quite straight) and the Brakes pull slightly to the left but they still need to polish up yet. All you guys know nothing is more exiting than using some thing you built and as ramblinwreck said I am "stoked". I would like to thank everyone for the help so far and if anyone wants to know more or need help I will do what I can.
